South Texas Ranches for Sale

South Texas is the home of many well-known large ranches, including the famous King Ranch, which spans 825,000 acres across five counties. But you don’t have to be a “King” to own land in South Texas. There are South Texas ranches for sale that range from a few hundred to thousands of acres. With recreational ranches, deer hunting, ranches for exotics, high fence ranches and stunning personal estates, you’ll discover some of the finest farm and ranch land around in South Texas.

If you’re interested in ranch land for hunting, South Texas has the best deer hunting in state. Prize-winning whitetails are often found on the thick, brushy terrain of South Texas. Other game includes wild hogs, turkeys, and doves to name a few. People come from all over the world to experience the wildlife, the spanning views, and great hunting that’s found in South Texas.

Besides hunting, there’s plenty to do on a South Texas ranch. You can enjoy weekend getaways, family recreational activities, host corporate retreats, or simply enjoy life in the country. Many South Texas ranches for sale come with existing homes, barns, and other structures already in place.

One of the benefits of owning South Texas ranch land is that you are free to develop your property as you see fit. Unlike metro and suburban developments, you aren’t bound to so many restrictions. Your ranch can be used for farming, a second home, developed into a ranch preserve or anything else you’ve dreamed up. It’s your property and your vision to bring to life.

If you’re curious about the temperatures and geography, here’s the rundown. The South Texas climate is subhumid to dry and consists of multiple terrains. So it varies depending on what part of the region you’re looking at.

The coastal belt is mostly made up of low, flat countryside while the interior land is blanketed with a thick cover of sand. Southward where the sands are shallower, you’ll find mesquite shrubs and grasses covering the land.  The soil in the area is alkaline to slightly acidic clays and clay loams. Deeper soils support South Texas’s tall brush like spiny hackberry and mesquite. You’ll find dense brush growing in the shallower, caliche soils.

This massive region of the state covers 28 counties and nearly 37,800 square miles. It runs along the Rio Grande and border of Mexico from Del Rio to Brownsville and extends up the warm waters of the Gulf Coast to Aransas Pass and San Antonio Bay.
