This region includes 13 different counties and runs along the Pecos River to the border of Mexico. It also extends southwest to New Mexico and along the Chihuahuan Desert. It’s home to Big Bend National Park, the Davis Mountains, and the Marfa Plateau.

If you’re looking for a very large West Texas ranch for sale, you’ll find it here. Most ranches for sale in West Texas range from 500 to 65,000+ acres. And ranches for hunting are definitely popular in West Texas. Game animals include mule deer, dove, javelina, quail, and rabbits. Since hunting seasons for different types of game overlap, you’ll have plenty of opportunities throughout the year to hunt on your own West Texas ranch. This region also has some of the largest livestock ranches in the state.

Ranches for sale in West Texas are also great for recreation. Whether your interest is hiking, motorbiking, or camping, you can get away from the city lights and enjoy big open skies and vast space to play here in West Texas. And because you’ll own your own land in West Texas, you can escape the crowds of people who also want to get away on weekends and holidays.

Your West Texas ranch is also the perfect place to experiment with “off-the-grid” living, or wind and solar energy if you’re into any of that.

Known for its abundant wildlife and geological diversity, West Texas has many diverse habitats and flora. In the mountainous region of West Texas, elevations vary from 2,500 feet up to over 8,749 feet at Guadalupe Peak, Texas’s tallest mountain. But even the plant and animal life vary here. You’ll find mountains primarily composed of limestone in some parts and other ranges that are characterized by volcanic rocks.

West Texas land for sale is diverse in its vegetation and soil. Plants include desert grasslands, yucca and juniper savannahs, and creosote-tarbush desert scrub. Forests of oak and pinion pine grow along the mountains of the West Texas region.

Rainfall can be scarce here, averaging less than 12 inches annually, but this varies by year and area of West Texas. July and August tend to be the months with the highest rainfall.
